Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Who is Class Act DJ Service?

Class Act DJ service is the only full-time locally owned and operated DJ entertainment company in the Banff / Canmore area.  What this means to you is that we are very familiar with every venue in the area and work with their staff on a regular basis in addition to working with many other local wedding professionals.  We are highly recommended by major and small venues alike due to our reputation of providing reliable high quality services.  As a full-time company, we have the flexibility to meet with you at convenient times, 7 days a week.   Ultimately, the decision is yours and you must be completely confident with the DJ company you choose, the overall success of your event may depend on that company.

Identity theft security

This is one of the fastest growing problems in doing business on the internet as well as day to day personal business. OK, it's not a frequently asked question, but we think it should be. We are very conscious of this problem and take many precautions to protect the identity information you may entrust to us. Our computer network is protected by various means to keep information stored on our computer secure. In addition, any information that may be on paperwork that is to be discarded is shredded into very small pieces. Your personal information is treated with the utmost respect and will never be found intact in any recycle bin or garbage. Be sure to ask other vendors how your personal information will be treated before, during and after your event.

Who will be my DJ?

As a multi system company, we have a variety of DJ's.  You are of course welcome to choose a DJ that you have seen before and enjoyed, subject to availability, or we will assign a DJ based on your event and input.

What is included in your fees?

As you can imagine, this is one of the most frequently asked questions.  It will come up at some point in every enquiry.   Our service includes much more than some of our competitors.  A wireless microphone for your MC is standard, however the house system may still be your best option. If you are planning on more than 100 guests, there is no charge for an upgraded sound system. More specialized systems are usually required for parties with more than 250 guests however.  Basic tasteful lighting is also included, subject to space limitations and the mood you want to create. Corporate and private party packages may vary.

Will I pay meal and lodging expenses for the DJ?

In most cases the answer is no.  There are opportunities available at almost every venue and event for us to take a short break for a quick bite to eat.  If the DJ must be present in the room the entire time due to MC duties or other requirements, a sandwich arranged through the hotel would be sufficient rather than the expense of a 4 course meal.  Because we are local vendors, it is often no more than a 20 to 30 minute drive home and accommodations are not required.  Some remote locations may require some form of lodging depending on time of year and expected weather conditions. We have not had to exercise this to this date.

Can we choose our own music?

We certainly encourage your input into the evenings music selections.  Some thought should be given to how danceable a song is and it's relative appeal to the majority of guests when choosing your music.

Are there songs that you can not legally play?

Those songs which have been downloaded from internet sources can not be played.  You will sometimes see references to AVLA restricted songs on DJ sites.  These songs can not be reproduced or copied in any way, but can still be played from the original CD.  Each of our systems has an original of various CD's such as Shania Twain, Garth Brooks, the Rolling Stones and U2.

Do I tip the DJ for his services?

Tipping your DJ is not required or expected, but if you feel that your DJ has provided outstanding service you may certainly tip at your discretion.

Do you supply a written contract?

All events are covered by a written contract for the protection of both parties.  Our contracts are clear and concise in their wording.

When are payments due?

A $100.00 deposit is required to guarantee the date and the balance is due between 1 week and 24 hours prior to the event depending on the form of payment.  We accept personal and company checks, Visa, Mastercard, American Express and of course cash.  For your convenience, we also offer a secure on-line payment gateway.

Do you belong to any organizations?

We are a member in good standing of the Canadian Disc Jockey Association (CDJA), the Banff Lake Louise Hotel Motel Association and a  Canadian affiliate of the American Disc Jockey Association (ADJA).  Many of our DJ's are involved in community organizations and public service clubs in Canmore.
